James Ley, tenor
Kayleigh Decker, mezzo-soprano
Jonathan King, piano
The feature of the program is Britten’s Canticle II, Abraham and Isaac, and it tells the story of Abraham’s instruction to sacrifice his son, and an imagined scenario of how the scene unfolded. It is a moving piece with much heart and soul, as listeners meditate on themes of submitting to God’s will and wrestling with human suffering.
The evening will also include Robert Schumann’s Dictherliebe, and selected songs by Florence Price and Alma Mahler.
